Another excellent turnout of EIGHTEEN drivers for what is our most controversial Club Championship. Controversial because it is run with a driver Handicap, giving the less experienced drivers a chance to head the results for a change - ahead of those that regularly win every week.
Qualifying is in the form of two back-to-back runs with the fastest time counting, and the top half dozen places went to Novice drivers, new, old and very old! The added Handicap makes the Race Sheet harder to follow but old 'Novice' Chris C TQ'd ahead of Chris M and Simon WT.
The 'Finals' are a bit more wide open than usual and unfortunately don't always produce good quality driving. In fact, some of the driving was appalling! In the event, it was nice to see a couple of our genuine Novice drivers come out top with Simon WT comfortably winning ahead of Chris M - both setting personal bests on the way with their Roland-prepared Falcons. No wonder the Handicapper was beaten this week!
Malcolm, the instigator of the handicap system, had another good week to finish third with another old 'Novice', our Chairman Bill, fourth ahead of newly appointed 'Novice' Phil H. BSCRA Novice rules don't quite seem to be right somehow.
Not sure how the overall Championship standings are at this time, but I think Ian B might well be leading overall as we have had had four different winners from four rounds - Ian not being among them. Exactly the way the system should work!

Chris Church and Phil Hemsley to be regraded as Novices
Can you believe it, but under latest proposals two of our longest standing drivers with history tracing back to the 60's and 70's ( correct me if I'm wrong ! ) look like they may regain their Novice status.

Now, I wonder if, with a small change to our constitution, I could win junior championship again.........

Saloon Championship Rd.3 Results
Ben obviously doesn't sleep at night like the rest of us!
Hopefully, the results sheet will appear with this.
Another excellent Club night once again proving that Roedale is probably the best Club in the Country for club racing - both in terms of numbers and quality.
No less than Nineteen Members turned up, although 'only' 18 raced.
Very close racing throughout with the qualifying nicely divided into three groups of six.
Confirming his dominance of Saloon, Ian B just managed to outqualify Ben with Ian K, proving that you don't have to spend a fortune to go quick, very close behind.
Unfortunately, Michael and Graham H dropped out after qualifying with problems which conveniently left us with four finals.
The 'D' Final was very close with Terry setting his best time of the evening to win just ahead of Graham R pipping Robin, ahead of Stephen with his best time to date.
The 'C' Final seemed to contain all the 'old lags' with Chris C finally getting going to win ahead of Simon J who just kept ahead of a Bill and Roland.
Phil H won the 'B' Final from Stuart with Jody keeping ahead of young Simon T, who once again proved that he can mix it at the top.
Ian B was expected to win the 'A' but had to work hard to beat Ben who probably had to work even harder to keep Ian.K down in 3rd ahead of Stuart.
Sadly, Ronan Keating wasn't able to make it - we didn't even hear him singing!
Saloon Championship Rd 3
I didn't think that anyone could beat Ian B tonight, but I nearly did! Unbeknownst to me, I was closer to him that I thought. Turns out that he only won by 6 parts of the track! If only I hadn't fallen off that one time on the banking in my last race... But then if I'd've know it was that close before my last race, would I have had a bad race from being under pressure? Who knows...
Track was very grippy tonight, caused some more hassle than others, I quite liked it though.

Ronan Keating to try his hand at Slot Racing
Well probably not, but he will be in Brighton tonight for "The Music Park 2007" which is hosted at Stamner Park this evening, so there might be a bit more traffic around than usual tonight, particularly for anyone using the A27. Various 'Park & Ride' services are being provided as well.
Who knows, if he finishes early maybe he will pop in !
Good Racing,
Phil.

Tonight's F1 Racing
Great night's racing tonight, good to see you all again.
Racing was very competitive in both divisions. In the top division it's a long time since there have been four closely matched strap Formula One's competing. Ian B looked like he had the top car tonight, and could have won had it not been for that gear strip early on in the evening.
Hopefully see you all on 26th July for the next round !

Sports Championship Round 3 - 31st May 2007
Every so often, for no particular reason, everything goes right and we have a really good evening's racing. Last nights Sports Championship was one of those. 'Only' fourteen racers but no less than four personal bests!
Sports ( this is proper Sports for most part ! ), invariably causes plenty of upsets but the heats went more or less according to form with Ian B coming out ahead of Phil H who posted a PB on Blue. Malcolm was perhaps the surprise package by coming 3rd ahead of Ben. Did I hear rumours that he was running a new car??
Fourteen drivers meant 4 finals, and Simon T comfortably beat our new 'boy' Steve in the two man 'D'.
The'C' final promised a good scrap but Terry dropped out early and left Robin to come home with a PB and one of his best runs yet, ahead of Roland and Simon J, less than a couple of laps separating all three.
The 'B' was a mixed bag of 2 strap and 2 falcons but with Jody the Falcon specialist, anything could happen! As it was, the race was between old rivals, Graham H and Chris C with Graham getting past 50 for the first time in a while and Chris setting a nice, long overdue PB, a lap behind in second. The Falcon scrap went Jody's way beating Chris B with a remarkable 46.26 which is quicker than many can get straps around our track!
No real surprise in the 'A' Final with Ian B comfortably winning ahead of a very happy Malcolm finishing 2nd with a PB as well! Phil H finished 3rd ahead of Ben, who fell by the wayside and didn't really get going tonight.
