Contraversial (Fun) Subject?

Hello Gentlemen!

Chris Church did say he thought the blog was going abit quiet and was in need of a possible contraversial subject. I don't like to disappoint so here it is:

Whats the general opinion of POSSIBLY inviting the EAHORC to the club for one Sunday later in the year? Or maybe later next year?

If you look on the BSCRA website site you can see they've been to FLBT in Swindon and brought their own track and placed it over the top of the exisiting 1/32 track. I believe that we (well i will atleast) should remain open to other scale racing and use this an a FUN insight into HO racing (Even if you do see them as toys)

Well Roedale Racers do be kind with your responses. I bruise like a peach!

I see no reason why we shouldn't be supportive of something like this providing :

1. Some members are prepared to organise and support it. Chris does more than his fair share and, whilst he may like to participate, it shouldn't fall on his shoulders to organise it ( unless he wants to of course )

2. IT doesn't damage our track in any manner.

3. They lend us some cars and let us race as well !!

4. They pay a huge fee for the privilege!!

Any more bright ideas?

Casting aside all thoughts of 'Mickey' and 'Mouse', as we have turned down a BOC Round recently I can't for the life of me see why we should even contemplate hosting an HO event!

Each to their own!

Because its fun!!!!

Time to find a safe house i think Robin.

I suspect hosting the BOC was not supported as home drivers cannot participate, therefore, there is even less motivation for members to support it - at least with something like this club members can participate like the Southern 32 which is well supported.

We could of course have a slot stox day..........

we could......if we had a slot stox track!

I would be happy to arrange this meeting if there was enough interest from Roedale Racers. I beleive they would be able to provide the cars and they use the same 3 pin controllers as us so we could bring our own controllers.

Continue to express your darkest feelings on this matter.

I think it's a fantastic idea, it has my full support

with ideas like that no wonder you are anonymous!!!! ooops!

I am amazed that more than one member appears to support this idea - ignoring the anon comments.

Personally, I am not interested in any involvement with HO and any promotion of it within The Club will achieve nothing.
Someone needs to concentrate on our core interest of 1/32 scale first!

That appears to be a NO for HO from Chris. To add - My interest/concentration in 1/32 & 1/24 is not in question here!

Does anyone else wish to be brave and lay comment on this potentially "fun" proposal? Phil Moss, me and our mystery blogger are all Pro for a go!

where are you lot at roedale going? downhill even further?

I would just like to add I am now focusing 100% on this week's Sports Championship........

Who would have thought that the mere suggestion of HO racing would prove to be more controversial than politics, religion, sex, or even the current election in Zimbabwe. Still it gave us a good bit of banter on a quiet weekend !!!

I have no interest in promoting HO racing in our club as a regular bases but as a one off type event it could be interesting, BUT, these type of events don't organize them selfs and it is a real pain in the back side trying to get people and equipment in the right place at the right time at the best of times let alone a section we have no knowledge of.
Off to build another 'bloody' falcon!

I agree with Jody on the matter of not promoting HO racing as a regular racing event (Its not the clubs core scale), like i mentioned before the idea is a fun one off. The equipment used is mainly tomy afx track and timers and i beleive that would require maybe 6 standard plug sockets (1 per lane and 1 each for the timers) at a guess.

I not sure where you are coming from Robin. Why does HO need a 1/32nd track to race on? Just hire a room and set up the track and race.
Is it that they don’t have the power suppley, or controller points??

Jody said...

Phil, they go to 1/32nd tracks and lay there track over the top of it to race on, they have hired hall in the past but have found doing it this way gets more people to see it and race with them.

ChrisC said...

It really does seem a pointless excercise when we have a perfectly good track to race sensible cars on - whether for pure fun or the more serious stuff.
I can't see that they would get much more interest out of it anyway.

What we need is that Slot Stox track!

Jody. So it's not that well supported then.
May be we should lay a scalex track on pinewood!!

HO does about the same as most slot car races, attendances around 8-20 depending on a range of circumstances. Many of the things people think about it are flat wrong.

My experiences of what the EAHORC guys do when laying their track on top of an existing one has been nothing but positive.

It seems there are some issues here so I suggest the Roedale members who are able to think outside the box should come along to an HO race, starting with the BSCRA Nats. A home race could follow if that works out.

Each to their own? Of course but being broad minded is not a bad thing either.

If anyone wants to talk HO and find out some more depth about it LHORC stands ready.

Thanks to a mate for alerting me to this blog.
